Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Injections
Hyaluronic acid injections are normally used for the treatment of osteoarthritis by reducing pain and improving the function of our joints and theoretically can be applied to any joint, especially the knee joint.
HA injections work to nourish and lubricate the joint and are classed as a ‘medical device’, rather than a drug, and are very safe to be administered.
Patients who are active particularly favour these injections as they work to nourish and lubricate joints mimicking the body’s natural synovial fluid, which generally becomes depleted and less viscous with age.
Research has shown hyaluronic acid injections reduce cartilage erosion and periarticular fibrosis and improve normal movement patterns, e.g. walking/running gait. Hyaluronic acid injections are licensed for use in any joint in the body (except the spine).
Many professional athletes use HA to help maintain joint health.
Neil Liffen offers HA injections and are performed under ultrasound guidance, to visually guide the needle tip to the precise location to ensure the accuracy and maximum effectiveness of the medication to the affected and/or desired joint or soft tissue.
Neil Liffen offers all types of HA injections but only keeps stock of Ostenil Plus and Biolevox only.
Please note, if you require a specific HA injection that is not listed please contact us as this can be sourced by Neil Liffen or by the patient.
1. Ostenil Plus (40mg per injection)
2. Biolevox (120mg per injection)
Biolevox is the highest amount of HA in a single injection – 120mg, which is particular designed for the large joints i.e. hip, knee, shoulder and ankle.
